”How you can KNOW that you have eternal life!"
1 John 5:13 - These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life...”
My friend, until you come to Jesus and accept what He has done for you, (in shedding His blood, and paying the penalty for your sins and mine) and receive the free gift of salvation, then you are, as I was, WITHOUT a choice.
Romans 6:23 – “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
The judgment had been made, and SIN...even one, made us worthy of an eternal death and separation from God…. and because it says in
Romans 3:23 – “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” … and also in
Romans 5:12 – “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:”
Our eternal destiny, without Christ, was determined. There is nothing a person has to do to be condemned to Hell… that was done for us by Adam, the “one man” spoken of in the verse above. Therefore, without Christ, we have no choice. Salvation through Jesus is the only choice that is given for a person to find forgiveness of sin and to have new life…eternal life.
John 14:6 – “Jesus saith unto him, I am THE way, THE truth, and THE life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
And in Titus 3:5 - Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us…”
From these verses we can see that we are a sinner, deserving of eternal death, and recognize that ONLY He can save us from our sins.
Praise the Lord that the second part of Romans 6:23 gives hope and a promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Romans 10:9,10
9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
If you believe in your heart, that Jesus was the perfect Son of God, who died for your sins, was buried, and on the third day rose again, winning the victory over sin and death, then you need to pray to God and receive this gift of salvation. Prayer is nothing more than talking to God…there are no specific words that have to be used, but you must with your mouth call upon the Lord. I have given a sample prayer below that you can read or you can use your own words to say the same things…God is listening and knows the attitude of your heart. If you pray these words and really mean it, He will come into your heart and life and give you new and abundant life.
“Heavenly Father,
I am a sinner…deserving of the death and punishment that is the payment for sin. I know that your Son Jesus died for the sins of the world, but He died for MY sins, and wants to forgive me of my sins and make my life new. I accept the gift of salvation, and I accept Jesus as the new LORD of my life, and want to do things HIS way from now on. Thank you for saving me, and I thank you that you hold me in the palm of your hand and noone will take me out of your hand. I love you God. I pray these things in the name of Jesus, Your Son….Amen.”
